How To Start A Local EC Group

Most EC groups start out with one or more people wanting a group in their area. The best first contact is the ECWR office or a Shepherding Committee member. This will help get you in touch with other people in your area that EC has on file. The Shepherding Committee will also connect you with an available EC Chapter or Committee member who can provide assistance in helping get you started with ideas and support of various kinds. All local groups wishing to become chartered are requested to go through 6-12 months of shepherding by a Chartered local group and/or a Shepherding Committee member.

Getting Started

  1. Have new group leadership meet for a day of planning with leadership of a Chartered group and/or a Shepherding Committee member.
  2. Decide whether to have a kick off party or simply start with a regular meeting.
  3. Decide if having weekly, bimonthly, or monthly meetings (weekly seem most effective).
  4. Find a meeting place.
  5. Decide on advertising - there are lots of free advertising options.
  6. Set up local phone contact using a message center, machine or voice mail box.
  7. Set up bank account. The ECWR office will assist with necessary paper work.
  8. Put together a newsletter.
  9. Set up leadership meetings.
  10. Make use of ECWR Leadership Trainings and ConnECtion for support.
  11. Have all leaders become current members of ECWR in good standing.
  12. After several months the group should be able to function without assistance from a Chartered group.
  13. Submit the appropriate form to ECWR Board of Directors for Charter membership.

Newly Chartered groups are formally announced at the annual meeting held at ConnECtion, the annual ECWR conference.
